In
1999 I moved into an old farmhouse in Hadley, MA with two of
my best friends, Susan and Jessica. We had one cat each, so
I decided to do a portrait of each of us with our kitty.
Molly with Her Nurse
For my portrait, I chose to mimic a Frans Hals
painting,Catharina Hooft with her nurse. I thought Molly
in that dress would be funny!
Queen Jess
I chose a
Queen Elizabeth I theme for Jess. Her cat Saffron is hardly visible
in a doorway in the background because Saffy takes off for weeks
at a time and hardly ever comes inside.
Lunch with
Bella
For Sue and
her cat Bella, I chose to copy a Renoir 'Luncheon of the Boating
Party' I have always loved that painting-I liked the way the
woman was cooing to her dog.
